Should the Pope Be doing More
The Pope is the leader for the catholic church and has been portray as a significant figure. History identifies St Peter, one of the 12 disciples of Jesus, as the first Pope and since then, there has been over 200 Popes. The pope focuses on the racial disparities of people, eliminating poverty, bridging religion to name a few.
Should the pope be doing more, is a thought that came to mind after Pope Francis made a public statement that he’s condemning the Russia invasion of Ukraine. This I wonder to myself, does this statement carries any weight especially to Putin, for him to be like oh no, I cross the line. Personally, I don’t think Putin would even be bothered by the Pope’s statement. Due to this, I started to research on the pope contributions to this world. I would like to think that someone that holds such a portfolio would be more influential.
This stems from my subjective ideology that whoever holds the post, doesn’t matter whether you’re a religion body, but a body that should be representing the Almighty. In this regards, the pope should be at the forefront of the major issues that plague our world. Especially those that the catholic church clearly states as their focus, such as eliminating poverty, or to give them the benefit of the doubt aggressively focus on this issue. However, this I have never seen anything in the headlines about the pope involvement in such. Likewise, maybe there are some efforts that I may not know of, the research I did, talk about visits and remarks were delivered on these issues. Now, how effective is this, visiting countries and talking about the existing issues the people suffers from. I mean it can allow for conversations but does this really drive the change coming from a 1 or 2-day conversation among the people. I know there is so much one can actually do, maybe once again it’s because of the ideology I have of someone that holds such a post clouds my judgment. I would like to see purposeful change, not only going and give talks but introduce programs, even if it’s not your duty in another country, challenge these leaders publicly to do so. Programs that are solid, that will continue over long period of time, to actually make a dent into whatever issue. I hope that give a picture of what I see.
Not to take away from the efforts pope Francis has made, since he is leading the way to certain implementations such a shaking things up when it comes the sexual misconduct that the catholic church experiences etc.
Should the Pope be doing more, I strongly believe so, with every live line in my body, such a person should be going at war with the world issues trying to solve them. Solving or trying to, doesn’t mean that 1 person alone but being that person that drive the fight, unite our great minds and abilities.
