Domestic violence
Domestic abuse, also called "domestic violence" or "intimate partner violence", can be defined as a pattern of behavior in any relationship that is used to gain or maintain power and control over an intimate partner.
According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV):
☆"1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner."
☆ "1 in 7 women and 1 in 25 men have been injured by an intimate partner."
☆ "1 in 7 women and 1 in 18 men have been stalked by an intimate partner during their lifetime to the point in which they felt very fearful or believed that they or someone close to them would be harmed or killed."!
☆ "Women between the ages of 18-24 are most commonly abused by an intimate partner."
As of March, 2021 World Health Organization (WHO) stated that "Worldwide, almost one third (27%) of women aged 15-49 years who have been in a relationship report that they have been subjected to some form of physical and/or sexual violence by their intimate partner."
In Guyana 896 cases of domestic violence were reported within the first six months alone!
Domestic violence is real and it is happening in our own back yards. Let's take the time to regularly check on our neighbors, friends and relatives.
